Art Nerd New York is a project that connects tourists, art lovers and New Yorkers themselves to unexpected and overlooked art sites around the city. They created these nerdily awesome buttons for their launch party a few months back.
Art Nerd New York features an interactive map and articles that point out hidden and overlooked art sites around New York City. Lori Zimmer, the project’s founder, described it this way: “Art Nerd New York is part travel guide, part art history lesson [that] gives an inside tip to the amazing art of New York beyond the galleries and museums- covering where artists ate, slept and died, the incite to obscure public art, secret art installations in hotels and bars, temporary projects in the public realm, art in the subways, million dollar corporate collections that the public can see, and art historical sites around town.”
Lori’s been handing out the leftover launch party buttons to people she meets. Buttons are fun and accessible, just as she hopes the entire project will be– she said “You don’t have to know anything about art when you read Art Nerd New York, but you will when you finish.”
