In January, St. Paul, Minnesota’s College of Visual Arts announced that it will be shutting it’s doors at the end of the current semester due to financial challenges. Not willing to let the school close without a fight, a group of students, faculty, alumni and community members joined together to create CVA Action, a group committed to raising funds to keep the school around. Group member Matthew Volenec said, “Our intimate college of 180 students– who each get one-on-one instruction from practicing artists and designers– isn’t going down without a fight.” Matthew created a 1″ button to distribute to those who donated to CVA Actions’s fundraising efforts, and Busy Beaver recently donated another 100 buttons toward the cause. The group has reached it’s initial $50,000 goal to meet immediate needs and ultimately hopes to raise $3 million to help keep the College of Visual Arts going into the future.
