Each February Busy Beaver celebrates the Golden Button Awards, a week devoted to some of the customers whose buttons have stood out over the past year. Among the 2015 recipients, you’ll find exceptional artwork, creative button projects and an overall appreciation for the pinback as a means of expression. We hope that you’ll find these Golden Button winners as inspiring as we have.
The Golden Button Awards are an opportunity to shine a spotlight on customers whose work in buttons show off a particular point of view. One customer who unquestionably stands out with a point of view and style that’s unmistakable is artist Penelope Gazin, also known by her alter ego brand name, Penelope Meatloaf.
Penelope is a prolific button designer– in addition to being one of our 2014 Button-O-Matic artists, her Etsy shop boasts over 50 different button designs, in addition to mirrors, magnets and bottle openers. With a style that combines vintage pin-up style, science fiction illustration, and the kind of doodles found on a junior high notebook, Penelope’s work translates perfectly to buttons as the kind of interesting imagery people want to wear.
In honor of Penelope’s contribution to buttondom over the last year, we’re thrilled to include her as one of this year’s Golden Button honorees. This year’s award, inspired by scouting sashes, features a collection of button “badges” that include choice designs from Penelope’s collection, as well as some of the other “achievements” her work has demonstrated.
Congrats to Penelope on her impressive button achievement. We can’t wait to see the fantasy ladies, butts, and pizza to come this year!
