Coming up with creative ways to engage supporters can mean the difference between a ho hum and highly successful fundraiser, and buttons can be a great way to make that happen. Here’s our list of creative and fun ways to use buttons to create a successful grassroots fundraiser.
Give Them Away
Maybe it seems counter-intuitive, but giving buttons away can be a good way to generate donations. Simply give buttons to your supporters– the button will be a walking advertisements to increase awareness of your cause and can engage those who didn’t know you existed (and encourage them to donate). You can also give away a button in exchange for a donation of any size, or a donation of a certain size. This can encourage small donors to give a buck and still be an incentive for those who are able to give more, too. See an example of great awareness-boosting buttons here.
Another easy way to raise money with buttons is to simply sell them. Our 1 inch buttons cost as little as $.17 each, but you can sell them for $1, $2, $5 or more. Supporters of your cause probably want to wear your button anyway, and will be happy to give a little extra to help out your cause. Making button packs is also a good way to add value to the item the donor is purchasing, while still keeping the price for your organization low. Check out this example of selling buttons to raise money.
Make Art Buttons
An art buttons sale is a great way to make great looking buttons, and engage the community in your fundraising efforts. Start by contacting local artists and ask if they’d be willing to donate a button design to the cause, then sell those buttons at your next event. Artists get some great exposure and your organization gets some funds– it’s a win/win! Renting a Button-o-Matic is great way to distribute art buttons, too. Check out this successful art button sale.
Hold a Raffle
Buttons make excellent incentives to encourage people to participate in a raffle. You can even make buttons with numbered stickers on the backs (contact us for info on that option) so that you don’t even have to use raffle tickets. Button incentives can also make a compelling display to bring in potential donors– check out this example.
