In the classic comedy, Groundhog Day, Bill Murray awakens morning after morning to find Punxsutawney, PA eternally wondering whether Phil the groundhog will forecast six more weeks of winter. In the movie, Punxsutawney was actually “played” by Woodstock, Illinois, a small town about 60 miles northwest of Chicago. Since filming wrapped in 1992, Woodstock has been host to an annual Groundhog Days celebration honoring it’s role in the famous film. For each year’s celebration, Woodstock also creates a commemorative 3″ button.
Our Marketing Manager, Denise and her husband, Mark, visited Woodstock’s Groundhog Days for it’s 20th anniversary celebration in 2012. She brought home a collection of Groundhog Days buttons from years past to donate to the Button Museum and Mark chronicled the movie location walking tour they took on his blog.
So what do you think? Will Puxatawny Phil predict an early spring this year or will we all wake up to “I Got You Babe” over and over again? Stay tuned on Sunday to find out what Phil has to say this year.
