Who’s ready to party?! Today is National Pin-back Button Day, also known as the 118th birthday of our beloved pin-back button!
On July 21, 1896, the Whitehead and Hoag Company filed the very first patent for the pin-back button. 118 years later, buttons have made their way to every corner of the globe, spreading millions of messages to perhaps billions of people!
We decided that a single day wasn’t nearly enough time to properly celebrate the button, so we’re having a week-long party online and in person here at the Beaver Dam– and you’re invited! We’ll be celebrating with balloons, cake and everybody’s favorite– presents! First off in the gift department, all orders going out through the end of July will receive this year’s commemorative pin-back:
Made in a limited run of just 500, this year’s button was designed by the uber-talented, Brett Manning, featuring a birthday cake decked out in– you guessed it!– 118 candles. We began the tradition of a limited edition button celebrating National Pin-back Button Day back in 2011. Are any of these treasures in your collection?
If you don’t have an upcoming button order in the next few weeks, you can also stop by the Beaver Dam now through this Friday, July 25 to pick up a birthday button of your very own. While you’re here, check out our birthday-themed window installation–
All this week we’ll be celebrating online by showcasing YOUR favorite buttons. Get in on the action by sharing a button photo on Twitter or Instagram and tagging #happybirthaybutton. Also stay tuned as we share some of our favorite people’s favorite buttons, as well as a few special giveaways and contests. It’s sure to be the party of the year!
