Busy Beaver is privileged to have a core group of customers who come back year after year to reorder buttons for their events and projects. These orders start to feel like old friends to the production staff (sometimes the customers themselves do, too!) and one of our favorite repeat orders that comes in every fall is from the organizers of Honk! Festival in Boston.
Honk! is a celebration of activist street bands and brings together groups from New England and around the world to, as the festival’s website states, honk for the same reasons a motorist might: ” to arouse fellow travelers, to warn of danger, to celebrate milestones, and to just plain have fun.” The participating bands vary widely in age and background but share a similar DIY aesthetic and belief in participatory democracy to combat injustice– music by the people, for the people that results in “a spectacle that is radical and subversive without being militant or sanctimonious.”
The festival has been making buttons with Busy Beaver for years now– originally a graphic black print button on metallic gold paper, and the new full color design, pictured above, that matches the festival’s fun and raucous feel.
Honk! Festival will take place in Boston and surrounding cities this weekend. If you’re lucky, maybe you can snag yourself a 1 inch button while you’re there!
Buttons have a long history of supporting social justice. Check out our “A Brief History of Cause Buttons” infographic.
