Our storefont is located on a busy stretch of Armitage Avenue here in Chicago that’s passed by hundreds of commuters and neighborhood folks each week. Inspired by the window display we put up for the Button-O-Matic party back in the summer, we decided that it was high time we use that exposure to get a message out. We’re button people, so, of course, it’s all about spreading the word!
After thinking it over and a few Beaver brainstorming sessions, we took a cue from our new sparkle printing effect to create an installation perfect for winter in the city– glittery white and ever-changing (just like Chicago weather).
A crack team of Beavers glued, cut and strung more than 2500 sparkle circles on garlands hung from the Beaver Dam’s two storefront windows. The strings of sparkle dots reflects sunlight during the day and the streetlights at night, casting ever-changing patterns and shadows on the paper backdrop behind.
But just like no button would be complete without a message, our window installation had to say something, too! The finishing touch to the installation are two large paper buttons featuring messages for passersby. The east window reads, “I (heart) buttons” and will be static throughout the installation’s run (because how could you get tired of that message!?).
The west window will be a rotating list of things we love. First up is “I (heart) beer” with an arrow pointing toward our neighbors at Marble bar. The changing window of things we love will rotate out every week or so, so keep an eye out if you’re in the neighborhood, or follow our Instagram to see the newest messages as they go up.
