For those who don’t know (or didn’t watch the Instragram video about it last week), our portion of Logan Square is going through some infrastructure improvements this month to replace old sewer pipes. According the info that went out to businesses from the Alderman’s office, the pipes in our area of Chicago date back to 1891. (Button enthusiasts will note that that actually pre-dates the pin-back button’s patent date in 1896.) We’ve watched the construction crew out in front of our building for the past week and marveled at their commitment to what might seem to be, well, a kind of gross job. So as a thank you for their hard word, we decided to make the crew some buttons.
Christen and Joel presented the buttons to the workers earlier this week and, we have to say, they were quite a hit. While you can never be totally sure how a “$#!t happens” button will go over , the crew seemed to be pretty well versed in toilet humor.
Also, check out this view of the work they were working on. You can see the new sewer that’s being installed in the center and the old brick pipe to the right. This crazy hole was 10 feet from our front door!
