Today’s Museum Monday celebrates MTV’s 30th birthday. On August 1, 1981, MTV launched its first broadcast with “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles. Up fourth was “You Better You Bet” by The Who:
“You Better You Bet” was both the 4th and 55th video to be aired on MTV, making it the first video to be shown more than once. Thus began the MTV tradition of repeat broadcasting— a custom carried on proudly, to this day, with multiple 24 hour marathon airings of the MTV Movie Awards, Teen Mom, and MADE: I Want To Be A Ladies Man.
Check back in two weeks for the next installment of Museum Monday.
