Looking to fill a gap in the Obama campaign’s merchandising efforts, long-time button customer Paul DeGeorge created Nerds for Obama to harness the power of fandom for political change. The project came out of the Harry Potter Alliance, a non-partisan group that empowers young people to work on real world issues using Harry Potter as a reference point. Nerds for Obama expands that idea in support of the president’s reelection campaign and engages fans of other “nerdy” pop culture– Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, Pokemon, etc.
Paul said that since “most people in their teens and twenties don’t own homes where they can put up yard signs,” the Nerds for Obama buttons and t-shirts, along with digital images for social media use, are an important way to engage young people in the election. All the nerdy items are available on the Nerds for Obama site, and there’s still time to get your awesomely nerdy swag before the election!
Though, maybe it’s just me, but I think the Lannisters are totally voting for Mitt.
