Pride Month is just around the corner, and we put together some of our favorite creative ways to use buttons in your celebrations. From parade giveaways to fundraising, buttons are a great way to increase visibility and show support for LGBTQ issues.
1. Giveaways at Pride Parade
This one is probably a no-brainer, but Pride Parades and other community celebrations the perfect opportunity to use buttons for getting the word out about your organization or issue. Small and easy to transport, the low per-piece price makes a pinback the perfect budget-friendly giveaway when you’re trying to reach a whole crowd of excited parade-goers.
2. Use Buttons to Fundraise
In addition to just giving them away, buttons are also great option to aid on your fundraising efforts. We’ve compiled a list of creative ideas for grassroots fundraising with buttons, including partnering with artists and designers to create limited edition designs and using buttons as raffle entries. Even if you plan to hand out buttons for free in some capacity, consider creating a button pack or higher end 24k gold button (like the set pictured above) to encourage donations or sponsorships.
3. Button Advocacy
If there’s an issue your group is currently working on, buttons are the perfect way to increase visibility. Buttons can encourage action around specific legislation you’re advocating for or against, or tackle awareness-building campaigns such as the example above around gender and pronouns. A great button will get your message out through the month of June and beyond.
4. Show Pride as a Business or Organization
Businesses can show their support for the LGBTQ community by participating in Pride events and increasing visibility around sexuality and gender issues throughout the month of June. Branded buttons worn by staff members will show customers that your organization is welcoming to all members of the community.
5. Celebrate LGBTQ History
Celebrate the history of Pride by honoring the figures that have made progress possible. Select well-known personalities, or shine light on lesser-known figures to commemorate on buttons. Create a collectible set for events as a scavenger hunt to encourage visitors to visit different booths and locations, or use buttons as an ice-breaker at meetings– participants can trade for their favorite historic figure. Designs that aren’t specifically branded for Pride month can be used all year round for different events, or for LGBT History Month in the fall.
6. Celebrate Diversity within the Movement
Pride month is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of voices and experiences within the LBGTQ community. Messaging that increases visibility of issues people of color, trans people, women, or immigrants within the movement is a great way to promote inclusiveness.
7. Buttons for Allies
Celebrate straight allies during Pride month with buttons that allow them to proclaim their alliance with the LBGTQ community. Simple “ally” buttons are easy to design, and an simple way to spread a message of broad support.
