Thrilling adventure, ancient Egyptian treasure and a monkey sidekick: all the necessary ingredients to create a page-turning comic book. Illustrator Sean O’Neill created Rocket Robinson and the Pharaoh’s Fortune, a comic adventure for younger readers, and recently made a set of custom 1″ buttons based on characters from the graphic novel.
Rocket Robinson and the Pharaoh’s Fortune had previously been released as a weekly webcomic, but the ultimate goal was always to publish it in book form. In the video for the project’s Kickstarter campaign, Sean describes wanting to create a book for intermediate readers because, though kids are often drawn to comics, there aren’t a lot of high quality graphic novel options that are appropriate for that age group. Since the project was funded this spring (and reached not one but two of their stretch goals!), everyone who preordered copies of the book will also be getting a button pack of their very own. And now that the book is finally printed, the Rocket Robinson book release party is happening this weekend at the Hideout here in Chicago, so even if you didn’t preorder you can still get a copy for your favorite comic-loving kid!
