Spudnik Press is a community print shop here in Chicago that provides studio space to artists looking for somewhere to create and exhibit their work. Spudnik’s 2012 members received a nifty metallic oval button as part of this year’s swag for joining up.
Founder and director Angee Lennard described how the design came about: “At our fall membership meeting, we passed around markers and paper and told people to draw what ever they wished, as long as it somehow related to Spudnik. The winning button is designed by Liz Born and runner ups included a parachuting potato, a stylized version of the original Sputnik, and a sneaker embroidered with our name (accidentally) spelled wrong. The designs were so awesome and mind-blowing, we knew we had to do more with the artwork, so we turned one drawing into our member button.”
You just can’t go wrong with a metallic green puffer fish!
