Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company recently contacted Busy Beaver for help in creating a very special prop for use in their latest production, The Great Fire. In the show, a Chicago city alderman (a.k.a. city council member) named James Henry Hildreth (played by actress Cheryl Lynn Bruce) uses buttons in his campaign to capitalize on the fire’s destruction for political gain. The Hildreth button design went through a few incarnations before it was stage-ready. Take a look:
According to Lookingglass staff, “In the land of voting early and often, it helps to have campaign buttons from Busy Beaver Button Co. The buttons turned out to be a big hit and the perfect costume piece!” Lucky attendees of The Great Fire may even get to take home a Hildreth for Alderman button of their very own— the candidate has been known to campaign for votes even among audience members.
The Great Fire runs through December 4 at the Water Tower Water Works in downtown Chicago. For more information on schedules and tickets, check out LookingglassTheatre.org.
