This week marks the 119th birthday of the pin-back button, also known as National Pin-back Button Day. Each year we celebrate the pin-back’s original patent date, July 21, 1896, and all the ways that buttons have changed the world since!
We’re planning a full week of celebrations, and– lucky you!– you’re invited! Here are our favorite ways button-lovers can get in on the birthday celebration:
1. Wear a Button
A bit of a no-brainer, but we think the best way to celebrate the button’s birthday is to pin one on! Heck, the more the merrier– wear your whole collection like Beaver Brian did last July 21.
2. Share Your Buttons
3. Get a Free Button
This year’s commemorative button design for the 119th birthday harkens back to those early days of button-dom with William McKinley, the first president to use pin-back buttons, as our honorary Grand Marshall. And since a president this festive deserves to be shared, you can sign up to receive your very own 119th birthday button through July 24, 2015.
4. Get Your McKinley On
Nothing says party like some buttons and a pair of unruly presidential eyebrows! Strap on your birthday hat and show these 20th century folks how they partied back in 1896!
Three cheers for our favorite 119 year old– the beloved pin-back button!
