It’s no secret that Denise, our Marketing Manager, loves cats. In fact, she loves cats so much that she’s made it her personal mission to earn the business of all famous internet cats; we make buttons for Keyboard Cat, Nyan Cat, and, of course, Lil Bub.
But me? I’m a dog person. I share my home with an adorable 11-year old Cairn Terrier named Maddie, adopted in June 2008. So when I saw a button order come through for Pete The Dog LLC, I reached out to film director Benita Raphan to learn more.
Pete the Dog is an independent short film about Pete, a dog with behavior issues, that Raphan adopted several years ago. The film chronicles Raphan’s journey to find a humane and force-free way to manage Pete’s issues. Raphan says the buttons are being used as part of a Kickstarter reward for people who pledge to help complete the film. “They’re also being used to remind people that force-free training is the way” she says.
In addition to the film, which will be released this fall, there will be a microsite with resources to empower other dog owners to make good decisions in the training and care for their own companion animals. Resources will include podcast interviews from worldwide leaders in the field of force-free care and training, including E’lise Christensen, Grisha Stewart, Ken Ramierz, Susan G Friedman, and Chirag Patel.
I asked Benita if Pete likes the buttons. She said, “In my experience, people love buttons. Dogs and cats…..not so much”. My dog Maddie begs to differ.
