It’s been a whirlwind few weeks over here at Busy Beaver with some exciting press coverage for the Beaver Dam and Button Museum. Whatever your media of choice– TV, radio, web– we’ve got a feature to give you a peek into what it’s like to be a Beaver.
ABC7 at the Beaver Dam
Chicago legend Frank Mathie stopped by for a tour of the Button Museum and Beaver Dam last week for a ABC 7 Chicago story. We were thrilled to show him some of our favorite pinbacks, and hear that the feature is being shown on TV in taxis around the city, so keep an eye out for buttons next time you’re in a cab (or just watch it below).
Outside the Loop Radio
Busy Beaver founder Christen Carter was interviewed for Outside the Loop podcast that aired on WGN Radio over the weekend. The story (which begins at the 8:30 mark) captures not only the musical sounds of button-making, but also the story behind our founding and first customer, the band Guided by Voices.
The Button Museum was featured in a write-up by DNA Info Chicago. In the article, Christen explained the philosophy behind the museum’s eclectic collection: “We’re not interested in the value, more about how it communicates an idea of the time,” she said. “The button is a larger idea distilled into a small space, like a [news] headline. They tell a rich story.”
Yahoo! News Weird Museums
Yahoo! News selected the Button Museum as their Illinois pick in a round-up of weird museums across the US. There’s some stiff competition here in IL (Super Museum, National Museum of Ship Models, the list goes on), so we were honored to get the nod.
