When this order of buttons came through I first noticed them because they were adorable. But upon closer look, I appreciated them for their meta quality— a button featuring an illustrated depiction of a collection of buttons. So I just had to ask customer Andrea Bell about the design. Turns out, they’re promotional buttons for Bell’s newest graphic novel Rose from the Dead which she’ll be selling at this weekend’s Toronto Comic Art Festival (TCAF).
Bell said of the button designs, “The graphic novel is a little adventure story so I wanted to create an image for the button that signifies a journey and story. I’m a huge nerd and love RPG video games so that’s why I decided on the backpack (with buttons on it I should say) because all good adventures begin with the inventory in your bag.”
Rose from the Dead tells the story of two teenagers, Jack and Roz, who stumble upon an eerie cemetery which then leads them to go on an adventure.
Yeti Press, publisher of Rose from the Dead, says of Bell and her comic style, “Andrea single-handedly creates the genre “Adorahorror” by combining the most fun elements of horror with her signature adorable style.” Adorable buttons and cute skeletons— yep, sounds like adorahorror to us!
