Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the button patent. Celebrate the button’s birthday by wearing a button on Thursday, July 21st!
On July 21st, 1896, the pin-back button was established by the US Patent Office, and we’ve been buttoning up ever since! Click here to check out the full patent document— it shines some light on why buttons are also called “badges” or “pins”.
Need a button to wear? Stop by the Beaver Dam and pick up a free “I’m 115 years old!” button (as pictured above). Not in Chicago? No worries— we’ll also be including one with every button order over the next month.
For more button history, check out the Busy Beaver Button Museum.
